Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd’s real identity, has replaced his previous stage moniker on his social media profiles.
The artist changed his stage name after talking about wanting to “kill The Weeknd” in an interview with W Magazine.
“I’m going through a cathartic path right now,” he said. “It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as the Weeknd. But I still want to kill the Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
He underlined that he is attempting to become reborn by shedding his skin like The Weeknd.
The record I’m currently working on will likely be my last as The Weeknd. I’ve said everything I can say, like the Weeknd,” Abel continued.
