Multiple Jokers in one Movie?!

For the forthcoming Joker film, Joker: Folie à Deux, Los Angeles is taking on the appearance of Gotham City. We now have images of Joaquin Phoenix playing Arthur Fleck, the titular Joker, in his well-known character. He wears a colorful suit, has green hair and a red nose, along with the noteworthy addition of a black raincoat, and most of his outfit is similar to the original 2019 movie.

The Daily Planet, a DC news outlet in France, posted a picture of Joaquin Phoenix walking down a street while dressed as the Joker. The sidewalks are covered in trash and garbage sacks, and the street is lined with old, 1980s-style vehicles. It gives the image of a run-down Gotham City that is consistent with the original’s movie visual style.

The original Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix was a significant departure from most DC pictures at the time. Joker felt more like a psychological criminal thriller in the vein of “Taxi Driver” or “Nightcrawler” than a big-effects extravaganza like 2018’s Aquaman or a moody fantasy like 2019’s Shazam. While there were some recognizable elements from comic books, such as the existence of Gotham City and Thomas and Martha Wayne carrying weapons, someone who is not acquainted with the DC Universe might not even comprehend the significance of these elements in relation to superhero movies.

The first movie got rave reviews for its convincing origin story and tense plot, and Joaquin Phoenix won numerous awards for playing the Joker. Phoenix even received the first-ever Best Actor in a Leading Role Academy Award for a comic movie.

The audience was left to determine how much of the first movie was based on reality and how much was the delusion of a man who was mentally ill after Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker was locked up in Arkham Mental Asylum at the conclusion of the first movie. There were several hints that some of the events were all in Arthur Fleck’s head, and there were scenes that made it abundantly obvious that he was just making things up, even when the audience was led to believe that they were real for the majority of the movie.

Although it’s equally likely, Joaquin Phoenix’s follow-up performance in “Joker: Folie à Deux” may only serve to generate more questions, it’s entirely possible that it will shed some light on what actually transpired in the first movie. The fact that the second is referred to as a “musical” suggests right away that the events depicted will not accurately reflect what actually transpired.

Joker: Folie à Deux’s plot is largely unknown, however the title gives us an indication as to what to expect. The phrase “Folie à Deux” refers to two individuals who have the same psychosis. Given that Lady Gaga will be appearing in the movie in an unspecified role, it makes sense that she will be portraying a character who holds the same delusion as Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker; this suggests that Gaga may play Harley Quinn.
