According to a source cited by Axios on Tuesday, Microsoft Corp. slashed fewer than 1,000 people across many departments this week, making it the latest U.S. technology corporation to do so in the midst of a slowing global economy.
Less than 1% of Microsoft’s 221,000-person workforce as of June 30 were affected by the layoffs.
The business had said in July that a modest number of positions had been cut and that it would eventually hire more people.
Requests for comment on the Axios article from Reuters were not immediately answered by Microsoft.
As global economic growth slows as a result of increased interest rates, rising inflation, and an energy crisis in Europe, several digital businesses, including Meta Platforms Inc, Twitter Inc, and Snap Inc have reduced hiring and reduced job openings recently.
